Begun during a 2023 residency at HKW, The Quiet Archive treats the gallery as a reading room. Eight unbleached cotton panels are inscribed with passages of handwritten footnote text — fragments from an archive that the project itself fabricates.
Each season of the work coincides with the publication of a new chapter of the accompanying book, available without charge in the gallery and as a printed quarterly edition.
The project asks what would change in our relationship to the archive if it could not be searched, only sat with.
